Difficult Choices: Building Taiwan’s Resilience for an Uncertain Future

Alongside a serious threat to its military security, Taiwan also faces a wide range of significant domestic policy challenges. At the public form of Center for Asia-Pacific Resilience and Innovation (CAPRI), Dr. Richard Bush, author of Difficult Choices: Taiwan’s Quest for Security and the Good Life, addressed the challenges Taiwan faces in balancing competing priorities when formulating policy, with focuses on issues of government budget, public health, energy security, and conscription. Syaru Shirley Lin, chair of CAPRI, moderated the event.

Dr. Bush’s presentation was followed by a panel discussion with three leading experts: Prof. Alicia Garcia Herrero, founding board member of CAPRI and Chief Economist for Asia Pacific at Natixis and Senior Fellow of Bruegel, Mr. Enoch Wu, founder of Forward Alliance, Prof. Jiunn-rong Yeh, chair professor at National Taiwan University College of Law and Taiwan's former Minister of Education and Minister of the Interior.
