“Taiwan: The Island and the Issue”
Join us for a discussion regarding Taiwan from several different perspectives: historical, economic, legal, and political activism.
Discussion will be led by SULMAAN KHAN, Associate Professor of International History and Chinese Foreign Relations and Denison Chair of History and Diplomacy at Fletcher.
Participants:
CHIA-CHUN CHUNG is a Taiwanese American activist based in the Boston area. An engineer by day, Chia-Chun has spent 11 years as a volunteer, advocating for stronger US-Taiwan relations.
MICHAEL GLENNON is Professor of Constitutional and International Law at Fletcher. Glennon served as legal counsel to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that passed the 1979 Taiwan Relations Act, which defined the officially substantial but non-diplomatic relations between the United States and Taiwan.
HSIAO-TING LIN is research fellow and curator of the Modern China collection at the Hoover Institution (Stanford). He is an elected fellow of the Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland for his contributions to the studies of modern China's history.
S. SHIRLEY LIN is Compton Visiting Professor at the Miller Center of Public Affairs at the University Virginia. Lin is a former partner at Goldman Sachs where she led the firm’s private equity and venture capital efforts in Asia.
